WEB-SITE HOSTING...

picture

My previous article was about web-site domain registration. Some order a domain name and hosting service right away through one source and some just order a domain name to start out with to secure the name. Remember that they are essentially two separate entities.

Basically web hosting is what makes your domain "live" on the web. It is handled through a web hosting service that allows your web-site to be accessible via the world wide web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

The costs can vary in web hosting depending on the clients needs. If one wants their own dedicated server with access to edit information all the time, the price can go up considerably, but sometimes it is necessary depending on the organization. The scope of hosting services varies widely. The most basic is web page and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface.

Green or Eco-friendly website hosting is a host proven in not having any negative impact on the environment in an attempt to attract consumers.

I can handle registering domains AND the hosting through a hosting provider that I use. It is shared with others, so the only access I allow is myself for editing purposes only and I can not risk others going into anyone else's web-site files. Other packages are available if full access is needed. My costs are considerably lower and the service is reliable and also utilizes being a "green" host.

When it comes to hosting, I do prefer to have web-sites on the host I utilize because it is less time consuming and makes it easier to access and know where everything is when it comes to editing and troubleshooting. It is not fully necessary, but just a preference of mine and there has never been any issues.

This article was just to give you a very general understanding of what web hosting is. Many consumers don't realize the difference in what domain name registration and hosting is and what it entails. And if they don't fully understand, that is fine, but a general idea of what is going on can help.
